If they’re not hiring for adaptability, don’t board that sinking ship

I could tell you that Adaptability is a top skill that employers are seeking. I could tell you that it’s right up there with critical thinking, collaboration, comms and creativity. And I could tell you that however important adaptability is today, it will be even more important tomorrow.

Because it’s true.

But if any prospective employer doesn’t believe that, and isn’t hiring for adaptability, why would you want to work for them? If they:

a) don’t check how curious you are about seeing the opportunity or need for change
b) don’t give you the chance to demonstrate the courage you’ve shown in making change happen, and
c) don’t want to find out how fast you can move to keep up and stay ahead

then the chances are that everyone in that organisation will be looking for a new job sooner rather than later.

But how do you yourself stack up? Would you give you a job based on your adaptability? If not, I suggest you do something about that right now. Because if you can only deploy all your other skills in a steady state environment, you’re of limited value to a dynamic organisation. And once you have raised your Adaptability Intelligence, then only choose an employer that wants to make the most of it, because then you’ll have the chance to find out just what you’re capable of achieving.

Rich’s workshop with our senior management team not only identified our Values, but also gave us a structured framework to apply them in our decision-making process in everything from hiring, to partner relationships, to solidifying our strategic direction. The workshop itself as well as the thoughtful pre-work and follow-on application was highly invigorating and motivational for the team.
