Can’t, Won’t Couldn’t, Shouldn’t
The title above forms the motto that sits under a protective shield on a coat of arms. It represents those people everywhere who, it seems, just won’t change; they are all rock and no roll, and their favourite band is Status Quo…
Mastering Change, like mastering anything else, is a journey, and the first steps in that journey are to overcome our anxieties, our fears, and our lack of belief (in ourselves or colleagues). These are the root causes of why we stay rooted to the spot – irrespective of the merits of the rationale for change. The good news is that there are specific antidotes to these issues which, once administered, can help even the diehards embrace change like it was a blind date who turned out to be hot.
If we believe that the world will continue to change at an accelerating rate, and if we believe our people are our most important asset, then unlocking their change capability is surely the most pressing mandate we have. Quite simply, Mastering Change is essential if we want our strategies and change projects to be implemented more quickly and more completely. It is a journey that can inspire our people to become entrepreneurial rock stars, free of can’t, won’t, shouldn’t, or couldn’t. Those who can, change.
